42 Killed as Clan Feud Turns Deadly in Wadi Fira
A fight between two clans over a water well in the province of Wadi Fira in eastern Chad sparked an outbreak of ethnic violence that killed 42 people and injured 10. In turn, this violent act created a chain of vengeance acts that led to the destruction of several villages until government troops put the violence to an end. This crisis shows the common problem that is existing in Chad, where land and water disputes due to the influence of climate change and refugee flows from Sudan result in fatalities. Statistics from the International Crisis Group speak for themselves, stating that there were 1,000 fatalities and 2,000 injuries in approximately 100 violent incidents between 2021 and 2024.
